HKPC Calls for Independent Certification for Cloud Services

 

The availability of third-party certification for cloud computing services can help promote a secure and wider use of the technology in Hong Kong, especially among mobile users, said Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).

Speaking at the opening of “Information Security Showcase 2013” today (26 June 2013), Mrs Mak said, “Cloud computing has become day-to-day services at our fingertips. Before we migrate to mobile cloud, we need to address the security, privacy, service continuity, liability and legal issues.”

“A third-party certification will be essential in assisting the community in service selection, improving service quality and promoting adoption. The ICT Panel of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification, of which HKPC is a member, has started a study on certification services for cloud computing so as to formulate supporting strategies for the local industry,” she added.

Organized by HKPC under the theme of “Data Protection in Cloud and Mobile Environments”, the Showcase aims to introduce the latest trends, products and services in information security. Today’s ceremony was officiated by Mr Daniel Lai, Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR.
