HKPC Sets up the First Independent Software Testing Centre in Hong Kong

 

In line with the Government’s support to the development of the testing and certification industry, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (9 December 2013) opened the first independent software testing centre in Hong Kong - The Hong Kong Software Testing and Certification Centre (HKSTCC).

Miss Janet Wong, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, was the guest-of-honour of the opening ceremony. The officiating guests also included Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Professor Ching Pak-chung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC); Mr Victor Lam, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer; Mr Sunny Lee, Convener of the HKCTC Panel on Promoting Testing and Certification Services in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Trade; Mr Deng Weidong, Deputy Head of Zhuhai Science, Technology, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Bureau; and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Chen said, “Through setting up this first-ever independent software testing centre in Hong Kong, HKPC aims to promote software quality, enhance the technical capability of local ICT organizations and practitioners in quality assurance and testing, and facilitate the development of testing and certification services of ICT industry in Hong Kong.”

He said, “Software testing plays the critical role of the final gatekeeper in the software quality assurance process. With time and resources constraints, it requires good strategies, planning and management for effective testing of enormous and complex software. With an independent third-party professional testing, businesses can effectively enhance software quality, ensuring the reliability and safety of software systems and applications.”

Located on the second floor of HKPC Building, the HKSTCC offers a range of services including testing solution demonstration, functional and performance testing, code scanning, technical support, training as well as research. As an opening event, the “Hong Kong Software Quality Assurance Conference 2013” was held today to promote best practices in software testing under the theme of “Improving the Cost Effectiveness of Software Testing”.
