New E-Learning Platform Raises Standard of Tourism Service Industry

Local tourism service industry practitioners can now hone their customer service skills anytime, anywhere with a new e-learning platform (http://elearn.qtsa.com/).

The e-initiative is a highlight of the “Digitalized Learning Platform for Service Enhancement in Tourism Service Industry” programme launched by the Quality Tourism Services Association (QTSA) today (25 July 2014).

Funded by the SME Development Fund of the HKSAR Government and implemented by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the programme aims to promote the development of the local tourism service industry and enhance the service quality of frontline workers. It also includes an e-Guidebook, a smartphone app, a seminar and workshops.

Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board; Dr Simon Kwok, Chairman of QTSA; Mr Tommy Li, Chairman of QTSA SME Development Fund Project Committee, and Mr Gordon Lo, Acting Executive Director of HKPC, officiated the launch of the programme today.

Dr Simon Kwok, Chairman of QTSA, said, “The Digitalized Learning Platform for Service Enhancement in Tourism Service Industry offers an innovative and convenient way for the industry to access learning materials on quality services anytime, anywhere for service skills improvement. The association hopes the industry to fully utilize this e-learning platform and enable frontline workers to raise their service standards through this effective channel in order to uphold Hong Kong’s quality image internationally and to brace for new opportunities.”

Mr Gordon Lo, Acting Executive Director of HKPC, said, “This project leverages the professional knowledge and experience of HKPC in information technology and service excellence management. Through interviews with businesses with outstanding performance in customer service, our experts have developed the e-learning platform to groom the local tourism service industry practitioners and raise their service standards.”

This fully interactive e-learning platform features scenario-based videos on various customer management skills, ranging from servicing, marketing, complaint handling to leadership. The e-Guidebook includes tips and case studies on quality tourism service. Apart from the online version, a smartphone app version will be available on App Store and Google Play in August.

In the seminar that follows the launch, Professor Andrew Chan, Director of Executive MBA Programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and representatives from Sa Sa International Holdings Limited, Tsui Wah Holdings Limited and Luk Fook Holdings (International) Limited shared their insights on innovative marketing ideas and quality tourism services best practices respectively.
