HKPC 50th Anniversary International Conference Charting a Smart Future for Hong Kong Businesses

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has opened the floodgate for novel smart technologies, rapidly reshaping our daily lives and business models around the world. In the face of this irreversible trend, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (21 September 2017) hosted its 50th anniversary signature event – International Conference on “Smart Future: A Global Prospective” to help Hong Kong businesses to seize new opportunities in the smart era.

Mr Matthew Cheung, Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR, was the guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony. He was accompanied by Mr Nicholas Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology; Miss Annie Choi, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology; Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC; and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Speaking at the opening, Mr Lin said, “Hong Kong enterprises should be ready to embrace the smart future, keeping abreast of the latest trends, exploring the experiences of others, and formulating strategies to take full advantage of technological advances - and HKPC will be your valuable partner in that journey.”

“Through this conference, we aim to give local business leaders and key stakeholders a deeper understanding of the changes that will disrupt the landscape of the economy and the market. We hope the experience and knowledge shared can have a pivotal impact in shaping the future of Hong Kong and the city’s industry,” he added.

At the conference, an ensemble of top-notch experts and business leaders explored the factors, opportunities, solutions and business models that would impact the development of Smart City and Smart Industry.

Keynote speakers included Professor Tan Tieniu, Vice Minister of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Professor Tsui Lap-Chee, President of the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong; Professor David Gann, Vice-President (Innovation) of Imperial College London, UK; Professor Xu Yangsheng, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen; Mr Ramon M. Torra Xicoy, General Manager, Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Spain; and Dr Victor Fung, Chairman of Fung Group.

Concurrent to the event was a showcase of the latest Smart City and Smart Industry technologies developed by HKPC. Highlights included smart street lamps, second generation smart auto technologies, robotics, and 3D printing applications.
