HKPC Mourns the Former Chairman Dr the Hon Chung Sze-yuen

(Hong Kong, 14 November 2018) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is profoundly saddened by the passing away of its former Chairman Dr the Hon Chung Sze-yuen and conveys its deepest condolences to his family.

Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, said, “As a pioneer in promoting the industrial development of Hong Kong, Dr Chung made tremendous contributions to the local business community. Under his leadership as the Chairman of HKPC from 1974 to 1976, the HKPC led the successful transformation of the Hong Kong manufacturing sector from labour intensive to technology driven, guiding them out of the shadows of the economic recession. This also helped the manufacturing sector lay solid foundation to embrace the new opportunities arising from the reform and opening up of Mainland China. Dr Chung set a role model to serving the Hong Kong industries. Saddened by his passing away, the HKPC sends its deepest condolences to Dr Chung’s family.”

Mr Mohamed D. Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “Dr Chung will be missed by all at HKPC. His significant contribution to Hong Kong, in particular the development of local industry, commands our highest respect. HKPC will continue to follow Dr Chung’s industrialist spirit and passion on public services, and will continue its partnership with the Hong Kong industry to innovate for a smart future.”

During the three-year term as HKPC’s Chairman, Dr Chung’s visionary insights enabled HKPC to find increasing acceptance in its operation, and expand its scope of work further to serve the industry and commerce. Examples included the introduction of the first full computer training programme, publication of a Hong Kong Industry Directory and provision of process quality control service. All these added more values to the wider industry with an aim to maintain their competitiveness.
