HKPC Welcomes the HKSAR Chief Executive's Support to Expedite Hong Kong's Reindustrialisation and Promote Technology Transfer

(Hong Kong, 10 October 2018) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) welcomes the package of initiatives in the Chief Executive's 2018 Policy Address to expedite reindustrialisation, encourage smart manufacturing and promote technology transfer among Hong Kong industries, in reinforcing its commitment to developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub.

HKPC fully shares the Chief Executive's view that high-end manufacturing will generate R&D needs and create quality jobs for local I&T talent. The Policy Address proposes a HK$2 billion "Reindustrialisation Funding Scheme" to subsidise manufacturers to set up smart production lines in Hong Kong, which will certainly provide the industries with extra incentive to engage in high-end production by tapping into I&T and application of smart technologies and production processes, and expediting the pace of Hong Kong's reindustrialisation.

As Hong Kong's expert in championing, facilitating and implementing Industry 4.0 (i4.0), HKPC, will continue bringing in advanced technologies and world-class partners as well as developing all-rounded cost-effective industry solutions to foster such industrial upgrades, fostering the regional transformation towards smart manufacturing in the digital era among Hong Kong industries and enterprises.

In alignment with the HKSAR Government's measures towards reindustrialisation, HKPC has stepped up its industry support and introduced various new initiatives recently to facilitate Hong Kong enterprises' transformation towards i4.0. These included the opening of INC Invention Centre, establishment of the Smart Industry One Consortium, introduction of "i4.0 Upgrade and Recognition Programme" and organising training courses under the "Reindustrialisation and Technology Training Programme", to help businesses nurture talents and advance their operations.
