HKPC Mourns the Passing of Former Chairman Dr Kenneth Fang, GBS, JP

(Hong Kong, 31 August 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is profoundly saddened by the passing of its former Chairman Dr Kenneth Fang, GBS, JP and conveys its deepest condolences to his family.

Under his leadership as HKPC Chairman from 1994 to 2002, Dr Fang led HKPC to make landmark developments which have reinforced the council’s role in Hong Kong’s industrial development. These included, among others, two consultancy studies in 1995 and 2002 on HKPC’s role and operation which culminated in HKPC’s expansion to promote productivity in the service sector and provide integrated support in the Pearl River Delta.

Mr Sunny Tan, Chairman of HKPC, said, “Colleagues who knew Dr Fang regard him as a great leader and mentor for HKPC. As a textile expert and a successful industrialist who made exemplary efforts in public services apart from his chairmanship in HKPC, he commanded the respect of the Government, industry and community. On behalf of HKPC, I extend our deepest condolences to Dr Fang’s family. HKPC will continue to follow Dr Fang’s industrialist spirit and passion when serving the Hong Kong industry.”

During his nine-year tenure as HKPC’s Chairman, Dr Fang’s visionary insights enabled HKPC to stand in the forefront of industry with pioneering technical support (e.g. rapid prototyping, magnesium processing, ISO-environmental management and intellectual property services), and first-in-Hong Kong centres of excellence, including the Electromagnetic Compatibility Centre and the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre which are still in operation today.
