HKPC’s Advanced Manufacturing and Green Technology R&D Feats Imparting Practical Technology Applications for Different Industries Win the Most Product-based Accolades at 2021-22 Hong Kong Awards for Industries

(Hong Kong, 24 March 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has been actively promoting the application of sustainable advanced technology. Its research and development (R&D) achievements renowned for putting technology to practical and commercial use in a wide array of industries have recently been recognised again by the local industrial and business sectors, winning four prizes in the Equipment and Machinery Design category of the 2021-22 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI), the most among all organisations in product-based categories.

Jointly developed with AEL (International Holdings) Limited and whom production of prototype for trial at the campus restaurants of the Chinese University of Hong Kong was funded by the Public Sector Trial Scheme under the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) of the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the HKSAR Government, the Food TranSmarter, which converts food waste into raw material for biogas, won the HKAI: Equipment and Machinery Design Award. the system is expected to enable AEL (International Holdings) Limited to further capture business opportunities in Hong Kong and Mainland China with growing environmental awareness and both governments’ policy support for sustainability.

Also, the Side Seam Topstitching Machine, jointly developed with garment machine manufacturer Ngai Shing Development Limited with the funding support of the R&D Cash Rebate Scheme under ITF of ITC, received the HKAI: Equipment and Machinery Design Certificate of Merit. The machine has been successfully commercialised with many pieces of it being sold to Mainland China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, etc. so far, bringing more business for the company.

In addition, the multi-international-award-winning Electrically-Assisted Free Forming (EAFF) Technology (co-developed with Tung Hing Automation Investment Limited), and the Multi-stage Plasma Polishing Machine won the HKAI: Equipment and Machinery Design Certificate of Merit.

Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “We are very grateful to the organiser for the commendation to HKPC, as well as the trust of corporate partners in our innovation capability. We also sincerely thank our R&D team for their efforts in promoting local R&D. In addition to investing in R&D, HKPC also actively promotes the commercialisation and practical application of technologies; these awards are in recognition of the efforts of HKPC. HKPC promises to continue supporting the promotion of advanced manufacturing and green living in Hong Kong, making use of ‘Industry 4.0’ and innovative intelligent technologies, and further cementing the collaboration among the Government, industry, academic and research sectors in promoting the development of high value-added industries in Hong Kong, and turning innovation and technology into practical applications to assist those companies in need of upgrading and transformation to get ready for the post-epidemic economy.”

He continued, “Under the epidemic, HKPC has not halted its commitment and efforts to support SMEs. It recently announced that it will offer half-price concessions to SMEs in the pricing of R&D and consulting project personnel, the pricing of testing service personnel, and the fees for venue rental until the end of September. We hope such relief measures can bring benefits to SMEs and provide them with timely and appropriate assistance to ride out the storm and overcome the business challenges.”

In addition, HKPC is very encouraged that NiRoTech Limited has won the HKAI: Upgrading and Transformation Award at the event. HKPC’s technical expert team had assisted this local intelligent security product manufacturer in adopting advanced technologies to achieve intelligent manufacturing. The award is a recognition and support for enterprises that have established advanced manufacturing bases locally for upgrading and transformation.

Supported by the HKSAR Government, the HKAI aims to recognise the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in pursuit of high technology and high value-added activities, and to commend excellence in various aspects of their performance. The 2021-22 HKAI comprises six categories. Among them, the Equipment and Machinery Design category is organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong to encourage the upgrading of the design of equipment and machinery in Hong Kong, so as to enhance competitiveness, and to give recognition to outstanding products.
