HKPC Signs MOU with HKFEW TechEd Centre and PolyU CPCE to Jointly Promote TechEd while Introducing “vHK Grand Tour AR Design Competition”

(Hong Kong, 7 June 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers TechEd Centre (HKFEW TechEd Centre) and the College of Professional and Continuing Education Limited of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU CPCE) respectively, pledging to jointly promote innovation and technology (I&T) education (TechEd) in Hong Kong to nurture InnoTalents of the future. Boasting an experienced R&D and technical team, HKPC, as the super-connector of the government, I&T sector and education sector, actively organises various exhibitions, activities and seminars to keep teachers and students up-to-date with the latest technology, as well as “Smarter Campus” solutions to be in line with the emerging trend of the digital market.

HKPC will launch a “Survey on TechEd in Hong Kong Academia 2022” in August this year together with HKFEW TechEd Centre and PolyU CPCE, inviting principals, teachers and parents of all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong to explore the current situation and challenges of TechEd locally in order to analyse its effectiveness and development potential. To enhance the survey’s credibility, the survey will invite experienced practitioners and organisations from the education sector to attend focus groups to provide more feasible suggestions and solutions for promoting TechEd in Hong Kong, facilitating its wider application and all-round development.

Dr Lawrence Cheung, Chief Innovation Officer of HKPC, said, “The epidemic has accelerated digital transformation which has heightened the demand for technology talent. A recent survey by an IT and digital talent headhunter found Hong Kong is facing a brain drain in the technology industry with an additional 100,000 talents being required to fill the shortfall in the next five years. With the National 14th Five Year Plan supporting Hong Kong to become an international I&T hub, the I&T industry will be the dominant trend with technology talent being the leaders of tomorrow. HKPC is dedicated to promoting TechEd and FutureSkills. Through exchanges with different local universities and education organisations, co-operation among the government, industry, academia and research institutes can be strengthened to give ‘Smarter Campus’ a boost in terms of resources and technology and to achieve sustainability. Despite the epidemic, Inno Space of HKPC continues to promote TechED relentlessly. Last year, it had held more than 100 seminars and workshops in various forms, engaged with primary and secondary teachers and students and a number of STEM partners, and served over 80 schools in the TechEd STEM Network to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers and students in the I&T field, to raise competitiveness and prepare for future careers.”

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, HKPC will launch the “vHK Grand Tour AR Design Competition” to encourage local secondary students to unleash creativity with novel technologies. Contestants need to combine AR technology and Hong Kong’s landmark buildings to present different local landmarks, enabling the public to experience Hong Kong from an innovative perspective. Moreover, the event is supported by the General Support Programme of the Innovation and Technology Fund under the Innovation and Technology Commission. Interested parties can sign up online before 24 June 2022 and are required to submit their entry proposals for judging before 11 July 2022. In the future, HKPC will continue to utilise its extensive network and rich experience to organise various activities and industry exchanges, striving to nurture all-round talents through advanced technology. To know more about Inno Space, please visit: https://innospace.hkpc.org/.
