HKPC Academy’s Signature "HR x L&D Mixer" Series Close to a Hundred HR Professionals Exchange Views with Experts Leveraging AI to Boost HR Management Performance

(Hong Kong, 6 November 2023) The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has completely transformed the landscape of human resources (HR) operations and the job market. In the recently released "Policy Address 2023”, the HKSAR Government (the Government) announced that the “Digital Economy Development Committee” will provide its recommendations on digital infrastructure, cross‑boundary data flows, digital transformation of enterprises, and HR support early next year. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) fully supports the Government’s digital policy and Smart City initiatives. In order to drive the development of the digital economy, and also enhance competitiveness and productivity in businesses, HKPC Academy (the Academy) organised the "HR x L&D Mixer #2” earlier, with the theme “AI for HR” to provide an interactive platform for HR professionals and Learning & Development (L&D) practitioners to meet with the industry experts, and discuss the latest trends and applications of AI, as well as explore the potential and impact of technology in HR management.

The event was well-received, attracting nearly a hundred industry practitioners attended. Ms Karen FUNG, General Manager, InnoPreneur (SME & Startup Growth) and FutureSkills of HKPC, kicked off the event and stated, "The demand for digital talent continues to be on the rise, particularly when more enterprises are investing in AI. According to a recent ‘Hong Kong Enterprise Digitalisation Index Survey’ conducted by HKPC, AI tools will become mainstream in the workplace and create new opportunities for working professionals. The number of enterprises utilising AI in operations is expected to reach 50% next year. However, nearly 40% of the enterprises believe that their employees are not proficient in utilising AI tools, which shows that there is an urgent need to fill the talent gap and enhance the essential skills of employees.”

The panel discussion during the event invited, Ms Phoebe KWOK, Head of Partnership, AllStarsWomen DAO Asia-Pacific Chapter as the guest host, and renowned Tech companies leaders as guest speakers, including Mr Clarence CHAN, Senior Director, Hong Kong and Macau, Beijing Feishu Technology Co., Ltd, Mr Kit WONG, Founder, Wavenex Limited & HKPC Academy Trainer, Mr Vince PEI, Partnerships - North Asia, Deel.com and Ms Wendy TAM, Founder and Principal Consultant, SprintImpact Limited.

Guest speakers believed that AI has been widely applied to HR operations in various industries for decision-making tasks such as recruitment, employee record management, payroll calculations, and interviews, etc. AI can help HR Management create interview content to find the most suitable talent. In addition, AI can be used to assign work, making the workflow more efficient. As AI becomes more and more popular in daily operations, a speaker pointed out that the use of AI tools will become one of the most important skills, and therefore the selection of talent will change from the "T-shape", which specialise in one type of job, to the "V-shape", which is capable of applying to a wide range of job types. They stated that AI has both advantages and limitations. Enterprises should recognise its potential and adopt it wisely to achieve operational goals. For example, integrating data through AI systems can reduce administrative tasks and paperwork, allowing employees to focus on operational planning and strategic projects, thereby enhancing team efficiency. At the same time, the surveys cited by a speaker indicate that AI can effectively improve staff productivity by up to 25%. In conclusion, enterprises should strive for a balance between technology and talent, combining humanity and technology to maximise benefits. It is also important for enterprises to equip their employees with essential digital and human-machine collaboration skills to integrate technology into their daily work and enhance competitiveness.
