Manufacturers Make the Right TURN to Transform, Upgrade and Relocate

The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and strategic partners from more than 100 industry support organizations, trade associations, financial and technology institutions are in united front to support local manufacturers to 'TURN' under the challenges of the Mainland's processing trade policy.

TURN, the acronym for 'Transform, Upgrade and Relocate for a New horizon', is HKPC's new initiative for industry. With the support of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, TURN was launched today (12 June 2008) by Mr Frederick Ma, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government; Miss Yvonne Choi, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism) of HKSAR Government; Mr Andrew Leung, Chairman of HKPC; and Mr Wilson Fung, Executive Director of HKPC.

Introducing the TURN programme, Mr Leung said: "By leveraging on the expertise of HKPC and its strategic partners, TURN provides a one-stop platform with a wide spectrum of services to assist local manufacturers in the process of industrial upgrading, business transformation or relocating their operations."

Under the TURN programme, 42 on-site assessment projects will be conducted with recommendations on business process or technology improvement for the participating companies. Forty seminars and study missions will also be organized to update manufacturers on the latest Mainland policies, TURN opportunities and success stories. Furthermore, a support centre in Shenzhen and a website (www.hkpc.org/turn) will be established to provide information on TURN's new services.

Mr Fung said: "By fully utilizing the services of TURN, manufacturers will be in a better position to make the best decision about the future of their business which is just like the programme slogan - 'it only takes a small turn to climb over a mountain'."
