HKPC Wins 2 Accolades in Hong Kong Business Greater Bay Area Enterprise Awards 2022 for “Advanced Motorcycle EFI System” and “Automated and Intelligent Lens Manufacturing Line”

(Hong Kong, 16 December 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has won two accolades in the Hong Kong Business Greater Bay Area Enterprise Awards 2022, for its dedicated efforts to help enterprises achieve transformation and upgrading with advanced technologies and innovative solutions. The two award-winning projects are: “New Generation Advanced Motorcycle Electronic Fuel Injection System” (Automotive & Transport System category) and “Automated and Intelligent Lens Manufacturing Line” (Manufacturing Technology category).

Organised by Hong Kong Business, an English-language magazine, the Hong Kong Business Greater Bay Area Enterprise Awards aims to honour enterprises and organisations for their outstanding achievements in fostering mutual co-operation, investment, and development in the GBA; promoting deeper integration and coordinated development between Hong Kong and other parts of the GBA; and bringing positive impacts for the economic development of the GBA.

Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “The two awards show full recognition of HKPC’s expertise in supporting enterprises to leverage technology and innovation to achieve productivity excellence, and our efforts to foster closer collaboration among the industry, academia and research institutes to promote R&D and technology commercialisation. We will redouble our commitment to helping businesses address technological and operational pain points, to enhance competitiveness and productivity of the industry through advanced technology, FutureSkills training and government funding. Following the vision set out in the 20th National Congress of the CPC, HKPC will fully support the HKSAR government to promote the development of innovation and technology and high value-added industries, to grasp the opportunities presented by the Greater Bay Area, and further enhance Hong Kong’s dual roles in supporting Mainland enterprises to ‘go global’ and attract foreign investment. We will do our utmost to support Hong Kong to become an international innovation and technology hub, and to facilitate the city’s better integration into the country’s overall development.”

The award-winning “New Generation Advanced Motorcycle Electronic Fuel Injection System” (EFI system) is jointly developed by HKPC and Startec Limited. The project has received funding from the Innovation and Technology Fund of the HKSAR government, with support from the Automotive Platforms and Application Systems R&D Centre (APAS) to make the successful application for funding. The advanced EFI system not only offers a precise control strategy to the power system for sufficient power supply but also drastically cuts emission pollutants. It complies with the most recent China IV/Euro IV emission standards. Moreover, motorcycles equipped with the advanced EFI system will have good fuel economy consumption performance, which can be lowered by more than 25% compared with carburettor motorcycles. The control chip of the system deploys an advanced engine control algorithm that can prevent the detonation of an engine and improve motorcycle reliability and lifespan significantly, helping Startec to maintain a competitive advantage in both price and performance.

The second award HKPC has won is for developing an “Automated and Intelligent Lens Manufacturing Line” for Wai Luen Plastic Company Limited in Hong Kong for manufacturing optical adaptive lenses. With the aim of maximising productivity in limited production space, minimising labour usage and improving the ease of production management, the new manufacturing line, through utilization of smart and automated solutions, occupies less space and requires only two persons to operate. With a maximum production output of 100 lenses per hour, the outstanding cost-effectiveness serves as a prime example of Hong Kong’s “reindustrialisation”.

The winners of the Hong Kong Business Greater Bay Area Enterprise Awards 2022 were announced online on 13 Dec, followed by digital presentations where the winners share their thoughts through virtual interviews.
