Grey Water Recycling System

Water scarcity has long been a challenge in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region, exacerbated by climate change and increasing demand. In response, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has developed and patented a compact, efficient greywater recycling system. This system supports the Government’s Total Water Management (TWM) strategy by enabling sustainable water reuse, reducing reliance on freshwater sources, and promoting environmental conservation.

Greywater Recycling Technology
  • Utilizes Submerged Aerated Filter (SAF) and Microfiltration (MF) processes.
  • Treats domestic wastewater excluding toilet (blackwater) sources.
  • Produces crystal-clear, germ-free, and odorless reclaimed water.
  • Fulfills the water recycling requirements under BEAM Plus for both existing and new buildings, contributing to green building certification.
Applications
  • Toilet flushing (especially in areas without seawater supply).
  • Irrigation for green roofs and landscaping.
  • Cooling tower makeup water.
  • General cleaning (e.g., car washing, street cleaning).
  • Firefighting and decorative water features.
System Features
  • Compact design suitable for space-constrained urban environments.
  • Low maintenance with automated backwash and air scouring.
  • Modular packaged systems available in capacities from 1 to 100 m³/day.

  • Meets Hong Kong’s technical specifications for reclaimed water.
  • Proven installations at CityU and Tuen Mun Estate.
  • Demonstrated cost savings of up to HK$5.65/m³.
