HKPC sets up “3D Printing One” to take Hong Kong on 3D printing journey

The rapid development of 3D printing technology has triggered more diversified applications. To promote awareness and adoption of 3D printing technology to different industry sectors, enterprises, professional, educational bodies and the general public, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today (18 August 2015) opened the first one-stop 3D printing support center in Hong Kong – “3D Printing One”, to offer an end-to-end 3D printing experience under one roof.

Mr CY Leung, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, was the guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony. He was accompanied by Mr Stanley Lau, Chairman of HKPC; Mr Nicholas Yang, Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology; The Hon. Andrew Leung, member of Legislative Council; Mr Johann Wong, Acting Commissioner for Innovation and Technology; and Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC.

Mr Stanley Lau said, “With over 20 years of experience and expertise in 3D printing, HKPC sets up ‘3D Printing One’ as a one-stop platform to provide all-round 3D printing support services and information. It houses the most comprehensive spectrum of software and hardware, with a wealth of 3D printing experts and solid experience in technology application. It enables visitors to use this revolutionary technology to give life to their creative ideas, fostering a culture of innovation in Hong Kong.”

Mr Lau also pointed out that many advanced industrial nations are proactively driving the development of 3D printing technology, integrating it with Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent manufacturing to bring revolutionary changes to industry, business and the economy. The Central Government has also highlighted the need to drive the development and adoption of 3D printing. There is huge potential in this technology.

“3D Printing One” features 17 3D printers ranging from elementary to professional levels; and related facilities. These 3D printers support multi-material (including metal, biocompatible, food, plastic, fabric-liked, etc.) and multi-colour printing, with resolution ranging from 0.016mm to 0.5mm. Users can create unique products in the centre simply by providing an appropriate 3D CAD (computer-aided design) file. HKPC professional consultancy service is also available to cater to customized need for product development in a private environment.

Catering to the training needs of specific industries and individuals, HKPC also organizes various 3D printing diploma and short training programmes. Covering technology application, development trend and business operation, these programmes also feature hands-on sessions for participants.

In addition, HKPC consultants will be on hand to offer free technical guidance and advice to the public at the weekly “Advise-and-Print Session”. “3D Printing One” also provides a venue for networking, business matching and knowledge sharing.

Located at the HKPC Building, “3D Printing One” is open from 10am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. All are welcome.
