HK-INC Eyes on Opportunities for Toys Industry

At the latest “Hong Kong Industry Network Clusters” (HK-INC) consultation session (14 December 2012) organized by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the local toys industry exchanged views on business opportunities in branding, green design, safety compliance and emerging markets.

Mrs Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “In the first 10 months of 2012, Hong Kong’s total exports of toys have dropped 11% from the same period last year. Amid a volatile export outlook, local manufacturers should diversify their markets to include the Mainland and other emerging markets, and ride on their advantages in product quality and safety for business growth.”

In addition to tapping the Mainland domestic market, the meeting agreed that the local toys industry should enhance its competitiveness through branding, innovation, green design, cleaner production, automation and testing. Enterprises should also devise their industrial upgrading strategies to drive growth. HKPC will summarize these comments and communicate with the Government to help formulate strategies to support the development of the industry.

Held regularly, HK-INC aims to gauge the views of industry on issues of relevance to their development. Participants include Government officials, trade and industry organizations, business and SME associations.
