HKPC Mourns the Former Chairman Dr Allen Lee, JP
(Hong Kong, 19 May 2020) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is profoundly saddened by the passing away of its former Chairman Dr Allen Lee, JP and conveys its deepest condolences to his family.
Mr Willy Lin, Chairman of HKPC, said, “As a pioneer in promoting the industrial development of Hong Kong, Dr Lee made tremendous contributions to the local business community. As the Chairman of HKPC from 1982 to 1985, he campaigned for and witnessed the passing of the amendment of the HKPC Ordinance by the Legislative Council which merged the Council and its executive arm into one single entity – Hong Kong Productivity Council, and enabled HKPC to provide services outside Hong Kong, addressing the trend of more and more Hong Kong manufacturers relocating their labour-intensive production operations to the Greater Bay Area to capitalise on the Mainland’s open-door policy.”
Mr Mohamed Butt, Executive Director of HKPC, said, “Dr Lee’s significant contribution to Hong Kong, in particular the development of local industrial and commercial sector, commands our highest respect. HKPC will continue to follow Dr Lee’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion on public services, and will continue its partnership with the Hong Kong industry and assist the transformation and upgrading of local SMEs in moving forward with innovative mindset and technologies, at all ups and downs.”
During the four-year term as HKPC’s Chairman, Dr Lee’s visionary insights enhanced HKPC’s recognition and standing in the industry, and further expanding its scope of services to the industrial and commercial sector. Examples included the hosting of Hong Kong’s first Industrial Automation Exhibition and International Conference and the development of computer-aided design (CAD) systems for electronics and garment industries that significantly shortened design time.
