(Hong Kong, 20 December 2021) The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) of the HKSAR Government announced today to launch the Small Unmanned Aircraft Advanced Training Organisation Scheme (SUA ATO Scheme) under which approved training organisations can provide advanced training courses and conduct assessment for those remote pilots of small unmanned aircraft (SUA) conducting higher risk SUA operations.

(Hong Kong, 28 October 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (“HKPC”) today announced the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong SME Leading Business Index” (“Standard Chartered SME Index”) for the fourth quarter of 2021. The Overall Index rose by 1.6 to 48.2, hitting a three-year high once again. Gradually climbing up towards the 50 neutral level, the latest result reflects that despite the slowing down of the COVID-19 pandemic, local SMEs are still moving sluggishly forward in the recovery of business confidence.

The award-winning “kNOw Touch – Contactless Elevator Control Panel” wins the 2021 R&D 100 Award, while “Electrically-Assisted Free Forming (EAFF) Technology – Digital Dieless Direct Manufacturing Technology for Mass Customisation of Sheet Metals” claims a Gold Award in the “Special Recognition: Market Disruptor – Services” category for its potential to shake up an existing industry.

(Hong Kong, 19 October 2021) The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) of the Hong Kong Productivity Council is urging local users of remote access tools and network-attached storage (NAS) devices to step up security to fend off ransomware attacks targeting such devices. As recently HKCERT has observed from various sources that there has been an increase in ransomware attacks globally. Vulnerabilities in the remote access tools and NAS devices are found to be the major attack vectors for the latest wave of ransomware attacks.

(Hong Kong, 18 October 2021) “Food TranSmarter”, the food waste conversion system developed by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), scooped two grand awards at the first-ever City I&T Grand Challenge. It was crowned the Champion of the Open Group (Environmental Sustainability) category and won the Most Favoured Award by receiving the most public votes from the audience of the award presentation ceremony on-site.

(Hong Kong, 13 September 2021) The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) of the Hong Kong Productivity Council is urging local Microsoft Windows users to beware of a critical vulnerability recently discovered in various versions of the operating system. This vulnerability has been exploited in the wild. So far, Microsoft has not provided a patch to fix the vulnerability yet but has identified temporary workaround.

This year, the internship programme has been upgraded while its graduation ceremony broke with tradition as the intern “InnoTalents” took charge to showcase their amazing transformation. (Hong Kong, 27 July 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today announced the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong SME Leading Business Index” (“Standard Chartered SME Index”) for Q3 2021. The Overall Index has risen for three consecutive quarters, this time by 4.4 to 46.6, hitting a three-year high since Q3 2018. The results show returning business confidence of the local SME community amid the gradual easing of COVID-19 situation in Hong Kong and SMEs’ optimism about the global economy.

(Hong Kong, 16 July 2021) With population ageing becoming more pressing, there are concerns about elderly care and living and the healthcare system and related services face enormous pressure. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has developed a “Smart Elderly Health Care Monitoring System” to monitor the physical conditions of elderly home residents, providing real-time health data to a centralised system and their relatives for record-keeping purposes. The system is currently on preliminary trial at Pine Villa, Lohas Park.

(Hong Kong, 15 July 2021) The Electrically-Assisted Free Forming (EAFF) Technology for Digital Competitive Customisation of Sheet Metal Parts, developed by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), was crowned the Champion in the “Best Project Award” (Digital Advancement) at the prestigious “IMechE Project Award”, an internationally acclaimed award that recognises projects with significant contributions to the advancement of the mechanical practice organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Hong Kong Branch.

(Hong Kong, 22 June 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has recently received two international accreditations for talent development: the “Recognised Employer Partner” (REP) accreditation from CPA Australia (CPAA) and the “Approved Employer Accreditation – Professional Development” from the United Kingdom’s Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). (Hong Kong, 17 June 2021) To encourage non-government organisations (NGOs) in Hong Kong to make smart use of information technology (IT) to enhance operation and service delivery, the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), with the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, launched “The Hong Kong Jockey Club IT Support Programme for NGOs” to provide them with comprehensive free IT consultancy and advisory services. Since its launch in December 2019, 79 project applications have been approved so far.

(Hong Kong, 29 April 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today announced the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong SME Leading Business Index” (“Standard Chartered SME Index”) for the second quarter of 2021, which recorded the largest quarter-over-quarter surge of 9.8, standing at a two-year high of 42.2. (Hong Kong, 25 March 2021) The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, addressing the latest development of the discovery of multiple vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange Server, is urging local owners of this system to promptly download and install the relevant security patch from the official website and investigate for any system compromise occurred. Otherwise, they could be subject to theft of email data, ransomware attacks and even becoming part of a botnet.

(Hong Kong, 22 March 2021) (Updated on 23 March 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) proudly announced that its research and development (R&D) achievements have once again been recognised at the prestigious “Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions”, winning 15 awards in total, the most for HKPC since its inventions made their debut at the event in 2015, including three Gold Medals with Congratulations of Jury, four Gold Medals, seven Silver Medals and one Bronze Medal.

(Hong Kong, 26 January 2021) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) today announced the “Standard Chartered Hong Kong SME Leading Business Index” (“Standard Chartered SME Index”) for the first quarter of 2021, which recorded an overall index at 32.4, down 5.1 compared to the previous quarter, reflecting that local SMEs’ business confidence has been weakened under the fourth wave of epidemic outbreak.
