Thirty-five organizations and corporate volunteer groups (CSR) were recognized at the inaugural “Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program - Hong Kong Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award” presentation ceremony today (8 November 2010) for their outstanding achievements in the implementation and promotion of corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Launched by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and sponsored by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and Bank of China (Hong Kong), the Award is a highlight of the “Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program”.

The Award presentation ceremony was officiated by Mr Henry Tang, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Other officiating guests included Mr Clement Chen, Chairman of HKPC; Mr Joseph Lee, Chairman of CPCE; and Mr Zhuo Chengwen, Chief Financial Officer of Bank of China (Hong Kong).

The Award Scheme includes five categories, namely Services Industry, Manufacturing Industry, SME, Non-profit Distribution Group and Corporate Volunteer Group; each with gold, silver, bronze and merit awards. Winners of the Gold Award include CLP Holdings Ltd (Services Industry), Crystal Group (Manufacturing Industry), OKIA Optical Co., Ltd. (SME), Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (Non‐profit Distribution Group), CLP Volunteers (Corporate Volunteer Team).

Mr Clement Chen said, “Through the Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Program, HKPC aims to build a platform for different organizations to share their CSR experience across-the-board. Apart from the Award Scheme, the Program also includes business seminars, a slogan competition and student workshops, to raise public awareness of corporate citizenship.”

“As an industry support organization, HKPC has been actively promoting CSR in recent years to help local businesses enhance their competitiveness with the adoption of CSR strategies. We initiated the CSRCARE Programme last year to support the industry to implement the ISO 26000 Guidelines on CSR and launched a pilot project for the toys industry. We also conducted the first Hong Kong SME CSR Index Survey. In addition, the HKPC Volunteers, formed by our staff, initiated the Toys Bank which had successfully solicited the supports from toys manufacturers and assistance from social welfare organizations in donating toys to underprivileged children and families.”

To share the experience of the successful implementation of CSR initiatives, HKPC organized a seminar featuring the Gold Award winners after the ceremony. The experience of all winners will also be available on the web (www.hkcorporatecitizenship.com).
